In 1978 Angelo and Ugo Contrino fell in love with Radda and Podere l'Aja became their holiday home. The cultivation of vines and olive trees, as for centuries, marks the rhythms of life and nature in The Hague as in all of Chianti, but only in 2015 the wine activity takes on a definite connotation. In fact, in 2015 a methodical work of observation and parcelling began as the vineyards are located in 5 different points of the Radda area.
The concept of organic farming, which has been married for years now, begins its certification process and the marketing of wine, up to that moment exclusive to family and friends, is structured to face the national and international scenario.
The old savoir-faire never denied is welcomed, supported and enriched by young energy. From 2015 to 2018 it is Tommaso Sirsi, the new rampant winemaker, who leads the Hague in his new role, and then alternates with Valerio Marconi, a passionate technician with experience not only in the viticultural-oenological field, but also human and commercial, eager for new challenges.
Podere l'Aja is located in Radda in Chianti, the origin and beating heart of Chianti Classico. Chielle, La Croce, The Hague, Barlettaio and Spanda are the places where the company's vineyards extend, each with independent characteristics and peculiarities. Sangiovese is the absolute king, assisted in the oldest vineyards (70s) by Canaiolo and Colorino.
The sense of responsibility towards a territory, a history and a nucleus of people are our mission.
Clean agriculture, respect for the laws of nature and Sangiovese are our weapons.
In making wine, the place is a determining factor, we are lucky enough to work in one of the very few chosen habitats of Sangiovese, where the quality of light, soil and environmental biodiversity are similar to the needs of our vine.
